The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that a back-up power line needed for cooling has been restored at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

“A back-up power line to Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) has been restored, providing the plant with the external electricity it needs for reactor cooling and other safety functions,” the IAEA posted on Twitter.

As reported, repair crews of Ukraine’s electricity transmission system operator, Ukrenergo provided the ZNPP with power necessary for the safe operation of the plant’s reactors in the cold shutdown.

On the night of September 11, power unit No. 6 of the ZNPP was disconnected from the power grid. Preparations are underway for its cooling and transfer to a cold state.
