After 2 hours and 47 minutes on the court – far longer than he would have wished – Andy Murray is through to the second round. Illya Marchenko was relentless for two sets, making life very difficult for the world No1, breaking his serve three times in eight to begin. But from there, Murray found a way out of the second set, then pressed home the advantage to finish it off in a relative stroll. Far from his most fluent outing, but ultimately doing what he had to do.
