Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina reached the third round match at the United States Open Tennis Championships, defeating Germany’s Tatjana Maria on Aug. 29.
Svitolina, 23, beat Maria with a score of 6-2, 6-3. The match lasted 68 minutes.
Svitolina currently ranks 7th in the Women’s Tennis Association ranking.
The Ukrainian started the first set strong, making two breaks and leading 3-2. She served well and played aggressively near the net. This tactic allowed her to win three games in a row. The set ended with a score of 6-2 in Svitolina’s favor.
In the second set, Svitolina started with a break on the opponent’s serve. From then, on she played a faultless game, winning the second set with a score of 6-3.
Svitolina goes on to the third round, where she will face China’s Qiang Wang.
