Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina reached the second round match at the United States Open Tennis Championships, defeating U.S. player Sachia Vickery.
Svitolina, 23, beat Vickery on Aug. 27 with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 6-1. The match lasted 92 minutes.
Svitolina currently ranks 7th in the Women’s Tennis Association ranking.
The Ukrainian started the set off poorly, losing 0-2 in the match. However, she continued on to win two opponent’s serves, playing with a strong backhand and winning five games in a row. The set ended with a score of 6-3 in Svitolina’s favor.
In the second set, Vickery played confidently, leading 3-0. Svitolina tried to break back, but she won only one serve. Vickery won the second set with a score of 6-1.
In the third set, Svitolina started to play more actively and easily won every serve. Leading with a score of 5-0, she won the last set with a score of 6-1 in her favor.
Svitolina will on to the second round of the U.S. Open, where she will face Germany’s Tatjana Maria.
