You're reading: Tsurenko knocked out of Cincinnati tennis tournament by world No. 1

Ukrainian tennis player Lesia Tsurenko was defeated by World No.1 Simona Halep at the Western & Southern Open quarterfinal in Cincinnati on Aug. 18.

Tsurenko, 29, lost to Halep with a score of 4-6, 1-6. The match lasted 76 minutes.

Tsurenko ranks 44th in the Women’s Tennis Association ranking.

The first set started well for Tsurenko – she was leading 4-1, having broken her opponent’s serve. But then the Ukrainian lost all of her earlier confidence. The Romanian star Halep came up with her best tennis and won five games in a row. The first set ended 6-4 in Halep’s favor.

In the second set, Halep gave no chances to Tsurenko. The Romanian again won five games in a row and finished the set with a score of 6-1.
