You're reading: Ukraine wins 4 more medals at Paralympics

Ukraine added to its medals haul on March 11-12 at the Winter Paralympics in Pyongyang, South Korea, wining four more medals and placing third on the medals table.

Ukraine won five medals on March 10, the first full day of competition at the games.

The Winter Paralympics will be held until March 18. This year, 46 countries are competing for 80 medals in six key categories: alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, ice sledge hockey, snowboarding and wheelchair curling.

Ukraine participated in the Paralympic Games for the first time in 1996 and hasn’t missed a single competition since then. There are 20 athletes in Ukraine’s team this year, who are competing in biathlon, cross-country skiing and snowboarding.

Maksym Yarovyi won a gold medal in the men’s cross-country skiing in the 15-kilometer sprint on March 11. This is Yarovyi’s second Paralympic Games and his fourth medal.

Igor Reptukh, who took a bronze medal on the first day of competition, also added a gold for cross-country skiing in the 20-kilometer free technique sprint among standing men. This is Reptukh’s second Paralympics and his third medal overall.

Cross-country skier Oksana Shyshkova and her guide Vitaliy Kazakov won their second silver medal at this year’s competition in the women’s 15-kilometer free technique sprint for the visually impaired.

Lyudmila Lyashenko added her second bronze medal to the team’s score for the cross-country skiing 15-kilometer free technique sprint among standing women.

Ukraine has won nine medals in Pyongyang so far, and ranks third after the United States with 15 medals, and France with nine medals.
