You're reading: Ukraine’s Svitolina reaches fourth round at U.S. Open

Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina has reached the fourth round at the United States Open Tennis Championships, defeating China’s Qiang Wang on Aug. 31.

Svitolina, 23, beat Wang with a score of 6-4, 6-4. The match lasted 69 minutes.

Svitolina currently ranks 7th in the Women’s Tennis Association ranking.

The Ukrainian began the first set strong, making a break and leading 4-1. But Wang rebounded and easily won the next three games. When the score was 4-4, Svitolina confidently served and earned two set balls. The set ended with a score of 6-4 in Svitolina’s favor.

In the second set, Wang started with a break on the opponent’s serve. When the score was 1-3, Svitolina continued to play actively on return points and won four games in a row. The Ukrainian won the set with a score of 6-4.

Svitolina will now advance to the fourth round, where she will face Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova.
