Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina has won the Rogers Cup, beating Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki in the competition’s final on Aug. 13 in Toronto, Canada.

The Ukrainian won in two sets, 6-4, 6-0.

Svitolina twice trailed in the first set against Wozniacki, 27, the former world No.1 on the WTA Tour, but recovered and won the last eight games in a row.

On her way to final, she beat Venus Williams, Garbiñe Muguruza, and Simona Halep.

“It’s amazing that I’ve achieved this, but I try to take one tournament at a time, not thinking so much about all the past titles,” said Svitolina after the match on Sunday.

The tournament’s top prize is $2.4 million.

The victory in Toronto makes Kharkiv-born Svitolina, 22, the first woman to win three events at the elite Premier 5 (WTA) level in the same year. This is Svitolina’s fifth title in 2017.

The series of wins puts her fourth in the WTA world rankings.

“Of course, this brings me confidence, I have experience from those finals, but I try to take (each final) as a new challenge and always look forward to them,” the Ukrainian sportswoman said.

Svitolina is now getting ready for the last tournament of the season – the U.S. Open – which will take place from Aug. 28 to Sept. 10 in New York.
