These are some of the most popular questions Ukrainians googled in 2018, according to Google Ukraine, which on Dec. 11 released lists of the most popular search questions in the country.
The ranking reveals Ukrainians’ interest in a wide range of topics and personalities.
Most of the searches are about entertainment and sports: the most popular search request among Ukrainian Google users was the 2018 FIFA World Cup football championship. People also googled movies, TV shows, the Eurovision song contest, and local celebrities.
The second most popular search request was the Russian crime drama “Silver Spoon” (or “Mazhor” if transliterated from Russian) that was bought by Netflix in 2017. It tells about a son of a Russian businessman who is forced to work as a police officer.
The most popular person in Google Search was Ukrainian actress and comedian Marina Poplavska, the star of Ukrainian TV comedy show “Dizel-Show,” who died in a road accident in October. Russian rapper Egor Kreed and Russian singer Iosif Kobzon were next in search popularity.
Three most-googled movies in Ukraine were “Venom,” “Fifty Shades Freed,” and the animated movie “Hotel Transylvania 3.”
The most popular TV show among Google’s Ukrainian users was the Eurovision Song Contest.
The list of the items that Ukrainians looked up to purchase was topped by beyblade, a spinning Japanese toy. It was followed by T2, a TV tuner; and Ukrainian Railways tickets.
Apart from general rankings, Google also made a list of the most frequent questions that Ukrainians asked Google, and divided them into several types, including “Why?” “How?” and “What’s?” The questions were originally asked in Russian and Ukrainian.
