You're reading: Zelensky enacts NSDC decision to create cyber troops in Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree that puts into effect the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) decision on urgent measures for the cyber defense of the state, dated May 14, which implies the creation of cyber troops in the structure of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine.

Relevant document No. 446/2021, together with the NSDC decision, was released on the presidential website on Aug. 26.

According to the NSDC decision, the Cabinet of Ministers must calculate the amount of material, technical and financial resources required to create and ensure the functioning of cyber troops, as well as the amount of manning for cyber troops, taking into account the optimal ratio of servicepersons, employees of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine, as well as those enrolled in the reserve , reservists and other categories of persons.

“Based on the results of calculations, within two months, develop and submit for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine a draft law on the creation and functioning of a cyber troop in the system of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine,” according to the decision.

It notes that this decision was made to protect the sovereignty of the state, ensure its defense capability, prevent armed conflict and repulse armed aggression in cyberspace.

The presidential decree comes into force on the day of its publication. According to it, secretary of the council Oleksiy Danilov, is responsible for the implementation of the NSDC decision.
