You're reading: Interior Minister Says Group Planning Mass Riots Detained in Kyiv 

Interior Minister Denys Monastyrskyi has announced that Ukrainian security services have detained a group of people who planned riots in Kyiv using fake blood.

Speaking in the capital January 31 he said that “a group of people who planned mass riots in the downtown of the capital was detained. There were plans to get 5,000 such people, of whom up to 1,500 should be so-called titushky [hired thugs], who were supposed to arrange fights with law-enforcers.” 

Monastyrskyi confirmed that the plans included violence. “The planned protest rally was aimed at violent actions, at organizing mass riots … to shake up and destabilize the situation in the country,” he added. Rallies were also planned in Sumy, Chernihiv, Cherkasy and Poltava Regions.
