Komarov Avenue in Kyiv might be renamed after the first astronaut of independent Ukraine, Leonid Kadenyuk. The respective petition appeared on the website of Kyiv city council.

‘Soviet astronaut Komarov has nothing to do with Kyiv; the memory about him is merely the post-colonial Soviet heritage. Besides, the National Aviation University lies in this avenue. Thus, it is appropriate to honor the memory of the first astronaut of independent Ukraine, Leonid Kadenyuk, and rename this avenue after him. In this tough time, it’s also a good example for the patriotic education of Ukrainian youth,’ the petition’s author Ihor Melnyk said.
