You're reading: 112.ua: Yanukovych’s former bodyguard details 2014 Kharkiv murder plan

There was a plan to kill Viktor Yanukovych, the former Ukrainian president, who was ousted from his own country and fled to Russia – after the Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine toppled his regime in February 2014. Serhiy Bernatsky, Yanukovych’s former bodyguard and the witness for the defense said this during the interrogation in Obolon district court in Kyiv on June 22.

According to Bernatsky, the murder was planned by a group of unknown perpetrators who expected Yanukovych to come to Kharkiv on February 22, 2014, where the ousted leader intended to join the so-called ‘gathering of Ukrainian MPs’. Bernatsky’s the-then boss Volodymyr Pavlenko told him that they intended to kill Yanukovych during the gathering.
