The bill of the group of Rada members “On Amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine regarding the abolition of deputy immunity” (No. 6773) has been published on the website of the Verkhovna Rada.
The authors of the bill propose to delete the provision of Article 80 of the Constitution of Ukraine, which guarantees immunity to MPs, and the norm, which provides that parliamentarians can not be brought to criminal responsibility, detained or arrested without the consent of the Verkhovna Rada.
At the same time, it is proposed to leave the provisions of Article 80 in the Basic Law: “People’s deputies of Ukraine do not bear legal responsibility for the results of voting or statements in the parliament and its bodies, except for responsibility for insult or libel.”
As reported, the bill was registered in the Verkhovna Rada on July 19, where more than 150 Rada members are its authors.
Parliament member Mustafa Nayyem (Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction), who is listed among the co-authors of draft law No. 6773, said on Facebook: “Perhaps, this is the shortest and most revolutionary bill of this convocation.”
The MP said that 158 deputies representing all parliamentary factions and groups, other than the Opposition Bloc and the Radical Party, had signed the document.
