You're reading: 2 Ukrainian soldiers killed in anti-tank missile strike in Donbas

Two soldiers from Ukraine’s 92nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade were killed and two more were injured in the war zone of Donbas as Russian-backed militants attacked the Ukrainian ranks with an anti-tank missile on Nov. 7.

The incident occurred at 12:20 p.m. local time as one of the brigade’s engineer section personnel was hardening trench lines in the area.

“And at the moment when our brothers-in-arms were unloading timber near a platoon strongpoint, the enemy… fired off two guided anti-tank missiles,” the brigade reported on its Facebook page.

“One of the missiles targeted the Ural truck, near which the soldiers were working.”

The impact left one soldier, 23-year-old German Brodnikov, killed at the scene and three more injured, including one soldier in critical condition.

In its statement, the combat formation accused Russian-backed militants of despicable murder of yet another Ukrainian soldier despite an active ceasefire.

But the next morning, the soldier that had been badly injured in the attack, Gennadiy Motorin, died of his wounds.

“Skin burns, multiple fragment wounds, broken bones — he was in the worst condition of all three injured,” the 92nd Brigade reported early on Nov. 8.

“Medics have struggled night and day for his life….but this morning, the heart of yet another of our heroes stopped beating.”

Motorin, 37 was originally from the Donetsk Oblast city of Kramatorsk. He enlisted in the armed forces as recently as in February and served as a battalion minesweeper.
