You're reading: Some 4,000 Ukrainians to be called into urgent service to National Guard in April-May

Within the framework of the regular conscription of Ukrainian citizens for urgent military service in the period from April to May 2018, 4,000 people will be called to the ranks of the National Guard of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine has reported.

“In April-May of this year, 4,000 people will be conscript for military service in the Guard, which is somewhat more than in the past year, as we notice that a lot of soldiers are switching to contract service,” the press service of the National Guard quoted chief of the Staff Service of the Main Directorate of the National Guard, Lieutenant-Colonel Serhiy Marychev, as saying.

As reported, on February 15, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree on the transfer of conscripts to the reserve, as well as on the terms of further drafts of Ukrainian citizens for military service in 2018.

The respective presidential decree, No. 33/2018 of February 15, 2018, was posted on the website of the head of state on February 15.

According to the document, the president decided to send to the reserve from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service and other legal military formations the servicemen who completed the established terms of fixed-term military service in April-May and October-November 2018 (and also in August for conscript soldiers who have a bachelor’s or master’s degree of higher education and who completed the established terms of fixed-term military service).

According to the decree, in 2018, regular conscriptions of Ukrainian citizens for fixed-term military service will be held in April-May and October-November.
