Seven police officers received eye burns, several national guardsmen were injured in clashes during a protest in the center of Kyiv, Director of the communications department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Artem Shevchenko has said.

“The protesters on Bankova Street did not obey the lawful demand of the police to pass a check for the content of dangerous objects before being admitted to the Office of the President of Ukraine and provoked clashes with law enforcement forces using tear gas, tires and other items. The police and the National Guard were forced to take police measures. As a result of the clashes, seven police officers received eye burns, and several National Guardsmen were injured,” Shevchenko wrote on his Facebook page on Aug. 14.

He said that the situation is calm now.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine calls on all participants in the action to observe order, pas the check peacefully and notes: everyone who passes the check for the absence of dangerous objects could be freely admitted to the square in front of the Office of the President,” he said.
