You're reading: 8 teenagers hospitalized in Ivano-Frankivsk after poisoning with unknown substance

On June 17 night in Ivano-Frankivsk in the hostel of Ivano-Frankivsk State College of Technology and Business due to poisoning with an unknown substance, maybe, natural gas, eight students of the educational institution were hospitalized in moderate and severe conditions, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine said.

“On June 17 at 00:25 in Ivano-Frankivsk at 142 Konovaltsia Street in the four-storey building of the hostel of Ivano-Frankivsk State College of Technology and Business, as well as in four multi-storey residential buildings at 23 and 25 Petliury Street, 144 and 146 Konovaltsia Street, there was a strong foreign smell of an unknown substance (previously similar to natural gas). As a result of the accident, eight teenagers (born in 2004 and 2005) from the college’s hostel were injured, who were hospitalized in the hospital (three people are in serious condition and five people are in moderate condition, there is no threat to life),” the service said on its website on Thursday morning.

It is noted the emergency brigade of the Gas Facilities Administration of PJSC Ivano-Frankivskgas examined houses, hydraulic fracturing and the adjacent territory, no natural gas leaks were found, and Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Laboratory Center of the Health Ministry of Ukraine carried out air measurements, no hazardous substances were found.

In total, 36 people and 11 units of equipment were involved, including 23 people from the State Emergency Service and six units of technology.

“As of 07:00 on June 17, there is no strong smell in the air of an unknown substance,” the rescuers said.
