You're reading: Appeal for extension of Vyshynsky’s arrest to be considered on Sept. 26

The appeal court of Kherson region on September 26 will consider the complaint of lawyers of head of RIA Novosti Ukraina Kirill Vyshynsky to extend his term of detention until November 4.

The meeting is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on September 26, according to the court’s website.

As reported, law enforcers arrested Vyshynsky in Kyiv on May 15, 2018. He was notified of a suspicion in a criminal proceeding opened under Part 1, Article 111 (treason) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

He was taken to Kherson on May 16. On May 17, the Kherson City Court ruled to arrest Vyshynsky until July 13.

On July 6, spokeswoman for Ukraine’s prosecutor general Larysa Sarhan said that Vyshynsky had been informed of the suspicion of illegal possession of weapons and ammunition (Part 1, Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to her, a gun and ammunition for it were found and seized during recent searches in an individual bank vault rented by Vyshynsky. The gun is a firearm, a FN Browning M1906 automatic pistol.

On July 11, the Kherson City Court extended Vyshynsky’s arrest.
