You're reading: Arsonist of building near Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra notified of suspicion

The prosecutor’s office has notified of suspicion a 24-year-old man, who had set on fire an uninhabited building on Lavrska Street, which is on the balance sheet of the National Kyiv-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Reserve.

“Now the arsonist has been notified of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional damage to someone else’s property, committed by arson),” the press service of the Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office reported on Jan. 15.

The issue of choosing a preventive measure to a suspect is being considered.

As reported, the incident took place at about 4:00 p.m. on Jan. 14, 2019. The 24-year-old man, while in a room on the second floor of the building, he set mattresses that were lying on the floor inside the building on fire.

Later the man fled the scene of the crime. However, he was detained by employees of the metropolitan police on Jan. 15.

The building where the fire occurred is under reconstruction. There was nobody in the room at the time of the fire.
