Several thousand gay pride supporters have held a march in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, which lasted about 20 minutes despite opponents’ attempts to block them.

Several thousand people took part in Kyiv's gay pride event amid a heavy police presence as nationalist protesters tried to halt the event. Ukrainian police detained 56 far-right activists who tried to interrupt the gay pride march in central Kyiv on Sunday, the police said in a statement.
