Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov and his deputy Anton Gerashchenko went to Milan to support the soldier of the National Guard of Ukraine Vitaliy Markiv.

“In Milan, along with Vitaliy Markiv’s mother Oksana Maksymchuk and our team, we are preparing for tomorrow’s hearing on the appeal in the case of the guard soldier. The court must decide whether to involve the materials of the Ukrainian side in the case. We expect a fair decision,” Avakov wrote on his Twitter page on Wednesday, attaching the relevant photo.

In turn, Gerashchenko in his Twitter account said that Ukraine must fight for each of its defenders. “And we do it together,” he wrote.

As reported, in July 2019, Markiv was sentenced by the court of the first instance, the court of Pavia (Italy), to 24 years in prison for his alleged involvement in the murder of Italian photographer Andrea Rocchelli, who died in May 2014 in Donbas at the beginning of the Russian aggression against Ukraine. Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov said that the decision of the Italian court would be appealed.
