Oleh Netrebenko, a suspect extradited to Ukraine from Belarus involved in the beating of Tetiana Chornovol during December 2013, hung himself in a pretrial holding facility in Kyiv last week. Chornovol is presently a member of the People’s Front Party and parliament deputy.

“Yes, he hung himself in a pretrial holding facility in Kyiv. Kyiv’s Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) is investigating the suicide,” Interior Ministry Spokesman Artem Shevchenko told the Kyiv-based Interfax-Ukraine news agency.

As earlier reported, during the summer of 2015 two of Chornovol’s assailants were convicted, while three more remained on Interpol’s wanted list.

Investigators determined that Dneprodzerzhinsk native Netrebko, a.k.a. Netrik in criminal circles in eastern Ukraine, recruited thugs to beat Chornovol up in late 2013.

Prior to becoming a parliament deputy, Chornovol was a well-known journalist and civil activist. She was elected to parliament in 2014.
