The boiler houses in the town of Balaklia, Kharkiv region, have resumed their routine operation, which has been disrupted due to ammo blasts at the Ukrainian Defense Ministry artillery depots, Kharkiv regional state administration’s head Yulia Svitlychna said.

“Balaklia has been reconnected to the heating supply system! Now all of the six boiler houses in the city operate in regular mode,” Svitlychna posted on her Facebook account.

She also informed that the connection of customers to the gas supply system has begun.

“Gas has already been supplied to nearly 30 percent of customers and we plan to complete this process by March 29 (except for the houses in emergency condition),” the regional state administration’s head said.

As reported earlier with reference to Svitlychna, ammo explosions at the Ukrainian Defense Ministry artillery depots in the town of Balaklia, Kharkiv region, and neighboring villages have damaged 265 buildings, including 231 residential houses (114 private houses and 117 apartment blocks), 22 infrastructure and industrial facilities, 12 social facilities (including two schools and two kindergartens).

As of March 27 morning, 270 residents of the Balaklia district have stayed at evacuation centers, she said. The regional headquarters for the elimination of emergency situation aftermath decided to return people to their homes at this morning meeting.

One of the damaged kindergartens is planned to be restored over 2-3 days, the second one (in the Naftovikiv populated locality) requires an overhaul, Svitlychna said.

Over 120 tonnes of humanitarian aid, including over 50 tonnes of foodstuffs, medications, hygienic items and over 70 tonnes of building materials have been delivered to the Balaklia district as part of clean-up efforts of the emergency, the regional state administration’s head said.

Blasts at the munition depots, which are located not far from the town of Balaklia, have started overnight into March 23.

Criminal inquiries were launched on the basis of Criminal Code articles dealing with an act of sabotage and neglect of duty following explosions at the ammo depots.
