You're reading: Batkivschyna deputy beaten in Kryvyi Rih, police investigating assassination attempt

The police in the Dnipropetrovsk region have launched an investigation into an attempt to assassinate a deputy in Kryvyi Rih, the press service of the regional police has said.

“The incident was reported to the police on January 9 at about 8.00 p.m. The doctor of a hospital in Kryvyi Rih called the police and said that an ambulance team brought a man, born in 1984, with numerous injuries to the hospital. A police team was dispatched to the crime scene on Khostynska Street in the Central City District of Kryvyi Rih. They established that unknown persons, using a gas spray, had attacked the victim and injured him with an object similar to a piece of metal pipe. After that, the attackers ran away in an unknown direction,” the police statement says.

The information on the case has been entered in the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations as a crime described in Part 4 of Article 296 (disorderly conduct) and Part 2 of Article 15, Paragraph 7 of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (attempted murder).

As part of the investigation, the police are taking measures aimed at identifying all the circumstances of the crime and detaining the persons who committed it.

At the same time, the press service of the Batkivschyna Party has said that unidentified persons attacked a deputy of the Central City District Council, the chairman of the Inhulets District Division in Kryvyi Rih of the Batkivschyna party, 34-year-old Vadym Mirzoyan.

“According to initial reports, the attackers used a gas spray, after which Vadym Mirzoyan was hit hard on his head with a steel pipe and beaten in cold blood. As of now, Batkivschyna’s member has been taken to the hospital with a head injury and numerous fractures,” the party said in a statement released during the night of January 9.
