Belarusian pensioners are holding unauthorized protests in Minsk and other cities of the country on Monday, according to witnesses and Telegram channels.

Minsk’s protesting pensioners have gathered on Independence Square and are marching along the avenue toward Yakub Kolas Square. In comparison with the same event last Monday, it is being attended by a significantly larger number of people. Some Telegram channels have reported several thousand participants.

Similar protests are taking place in other cities; according to eyewitnesses, protesting pensioners have taken to the streets of Brest, Grodno, Gomel, and Lida.

Telegram channels and media outlets also reported the detentions of journalists in Minsk, Grodno, and Gomel.

Roman Lashkevich, a senior inspector at the information and public relation department of the Minsk police, confirmed to Interfax that several journalists have been detained in Minsk.

“The detainees were taken to the Oktyabrsky district police station for an ID check,” Lashkevich said.
