You're reading: Bomb disposal near Balaklia arsenal to be concluded on Sunday

BALAKLIA – The Ukrainian State Emergencies Service is planning to conclude the complete clearance of the territories of populated localities adjacent to the military arsenal near Kharkiv region’s Balaklia from explosive devices on Sunday.

“There is an issue of the clearance of the city’s territory and the territories of adjacent populated localities from explosive devices, in other words, eliminating a direct threat to the lives and health of the local people. And another issue is the disposal of ammunitions remaining in the territory of the arsenal. It’s a much longer process, it will require more time. As for the clearance of the territory, we’re planning to conclude it on Sunday,” Oleh Melchutsky, the State Emergencies Service’s first deputy head, said at a briefing on Friday, asked about the terms when the clearance from explosive devices is concluded.

The number of pyrotechnic units involved in bomb disposal in this area has been increased.

“Starting on Saturday, 15 such units will began the clearance work,” he said.
