Agents from Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service have prevented three so-called “stalkers,” two Ukrainians and a Russian, from entering the Chornobyl exclusion zone.

According to the service’s press service, military servicemen of the Ivankiv border service unit of the Zhytomyr detachment, jointly with officers of the National Police of Ukraine, detained two Ukrainians and a Russian on the outskirts of the town of Karpylivka, Ivankiv district, Kyiv region. The suspects had planned to enter the exclusion zone in order to enjoy “extreme tourism.”

The detainees were charged for violating Article 46-1 of Ukraine’s Code of Administrative Offenses (violating rules involving radiation safety in radioactive contaminated areas).
