The Boryspil International Airport (Kyiv), the country’s largest airport, saw a 32% rise in passenger flow in January-March 2017 year-over-year, to 2 million people.

The airport said in a press release that in Q1 2017 the number of transit passengers grew by 49%, to 600,000.

“The figures for Q1 2017 are evidence of the effectiveness of the hub strategy of the Boryspil airport. We must unlock the airport’s potential as much as possible and we would be able to attract over 10 million of passengers this year,” Boryspil Airport Director General Pavlo Riabikin said.

The airport said that it reached the above-mentioned figures thanks to establishing cooperation with the base airline – Ukrainian International Airlines (UIA) and improving technological processes in servicing passengers.

According to the press release, in 2016 the airport saw the largest figures in the whole history of the enterprise.

“The number of serviced passengers grew by 1.37 million, to 8.65 million. The largest growth was reached thanks to attraction of transit passengers from foreign markets. In a year the number of these passengers grew by 760,000, to 2.31 million,” the airport said.

Boryspil International Airport is the main airport of Ukraine. The airport has two runways: one with a length of 4,000 meters and a width of 60 meters, and the second with a length of 3,500 meters and a width of 63 meters. Four passenger terminals, postal and cargo complexes are located on the territory of the airport.
