You're reading: Brussels discussing steps to receive macrofinancial aid with Kyiv

Director-General for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Christian Danielsson has said that at a meeting with representatives of Ukrainian authorities steps to receive macrofinancial assistance from the European Union (EU) were discussed.

He said at a press conference in Kyiv on May 28 that in the previous years the situation in the macrofinancial sphere was rather successful. The EU has supported macrofinancial stability via the provision of macrofinancial assistance, which is coordinated with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He said that on May 28 they discussed the issues and concrete steps that Ukraine must make for receiving the next tranche of macrofinancial assistance.

He said that the starting point for receiving the next tranche of macrofinancial assistance from the EU is cooperation with the IMF.

Asked what conditions Ukraine must observe for receiving the assistance from the EU, Danielsson said that along with the implementation of the IMF programme, there are other conditions, in particular, the law providing for the fight against money laundering, the law on the authorized economic operator, as well as the functioning of the system of automatic verification of e-declarations, the implementation of the law on the electricity market and the adoption of a medium-term plan to reform the tax and customs services.

During the meetings on May 28, the EU did not receive any signals that its positions are not shared by the Ukrainian side. On the contrary, the EU got the impression that the Ukrainian side, both in the presidential administration and in the government, completely shares these views, he said.
