The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has established the Ministry for Veterans’ Affairs.

The corresponding decision was made at a government meeting on Nov. 28, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported.

The draft decision was presented at the meeting by Minister of Veterans Iryna Friz.

First deputy head of the service, Ihor Maltsev, was appointed head of the commission for the liquidation of the State Service for War and the ATO (Anti-Terrorist Operation) Veterans.

In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers instructed the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, together with the Ministry of Social Policy and the Health Ministry, to develop as soon as possible a provision on the newly created department, as well as all other documents necessary for starting its work.

The Ministry of Finance was entrusted with drafting changes to the state budgets for 2018 and 2019, to provide funding for the Ministry of Veterans Affairs thereto.

As reported, on November 22, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman’s recommendation on the appointment of Iryna Friz, the member from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction, as the Minister for Veterans Affairs.

The Minister of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine intends first of all to create a council of veterans, and the creation of an “e-veteran” system (“electronic veteran”) will also be one of the activities of the ministry.
