You're reading: Cabinet extends state of emergency in electricity market for another month

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has extended the state of emergency in the electricity market, introduced four months ago, for another month – until July 17.

The Cabinet made the relevant resolution on June 13.

As reported, emergency measures in the energy sector envisaged by government resolution No. 103-r of Feb.15 came into force on Feb. 17 because of the blockade of supplies of goods from the separatist-held territories in eastern Ukraine, in particular, anthracite coal, which is used by half of the country’s thermal power plants.

During the period of emergency measures, Ukrenergo is obliged to determine the permissible level of reducing the reserve of power generating capacities, establish requirements for the composition of TPPs’ equipment, if necessary and in coordination with the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry use the emergency shutdown schedule.
