Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has offered support to Ukraine in investigating the crash of a Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) passenger airliner in Iran in a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“Thank you Justin Trudeau for your offer to support Ukraine in investigating the plane crash in Iran,” Zelensky wrote on Twitter.

Zelensky reaffirmed Ukraine’s interest in a transparent and impartial investigation into the crash, the presidential press service said.

A Boeing 737-800 operated by UIA crashed shortly after takeoff from Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran early on Jan. 8 morning, killing all 167 passengers and 9 crewmembers onboard.

The fatalities included 11 citizens of Ukraine (two passengers and nine crew members), 82 citizens of Iran, 63 of Canada, ten of Sweden, four of Afghanistan, and three citizens each of Germany and the United Kingdom.
