A Tesla car belonging to Andriy Bohdan, a lawyer and former chief of staff of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, was burned in an alleged arson attack in Kyiv in the early hours of Aug. 11.

The police have opened a criminal investigation into the attack. Bohdan, in turn, was fast to point the blame at the government.

“I take it as a threat from authorities,” Bogdan said on Facebook. “Because this is just another episode as part of a number of criminal cases and smear campaigns in the media against me and my friends.”

Bohdan’s Tesla used to be a place where Zelensky recorded his videos that addressed the nation at the very beginning of his presidential term and before his relationship with Bohdan turned sour.

The former president’s chief of staff who was also the lawyer of Ukrainian oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky pointed out that the attack happened exactly half a year after his resignation and was done by skilled criminals.

“I understand that the person who ordered this crime has some criminal experience. His accomplices are sitting at the highest offices of state power,” he said, adding that he wants to find out who is responsible for setting his car on fire.

On security camera footage that Bohdan published on his Facebook page, a man holding a bag walks to Bohdan’s car. He then kneels down, makes a few moves, and runs away. Then the fire starts.

Along with Bohdan’s Tesla, two other vehicles parked next to it that belong to local residents also caught on fire, the police statement reads.
