The indictment against Odesa City Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov accused of declaring invalid information has been sent to the Prymorsky district of Odesa, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has reported.

According to investigators, the mayor of Odesa did not include information about the property and income, owned by his former wife, to whom the official in 2015-2016 was tied with common life, had mutual rights and duties, in his tax declaration.

With this person, the suspect was officially married from 1985 to 1997, has two children, one of whom was born in 2000, that is, after the official divorce.

The NABU said the mayor of Odesa had not declared an apartment, two parking spaces, a boathouse, a summer house, non-residential real estate, two cars, shares in a number of business entities, interest on deposits in banks. In total, the declaration for 2015 misses property for a total of UAH 32.48 million, the declaration for 2016 some UAH 18.81 million. The amount of undeclared property is determined on the basis of examinations conducted as part of the pretrial investigation.

NABU detectives began an investigation into these facts in November 2017. On March 11, 2019, the mayor of Odesa was notified that he is suspected of committing the crime. During the pretrial investigation, NABU detectives also established facts of illegal enrichment of the Odesa mayor in the amount of more than GBP 3 million.
