You're reading: Case of Ukrainian journalist Sharoiko, accused of espionage, heard behind closed doors

The Supreme Court of Belarus has started hearing the case of Ukrainian journalist Pavlo Sharoiko behind closed doors, Supreme Court press secretary Yulia Lyaskova has said.

“We do not comment when the trial started, and who is a judge. The trial is closed,” Lyaskova told Radio Free Europe.

It was announced on Nov.17, 2017 that UA: Ukrainian Radio correspondent Sharoiko had been detained in Minsk on Oct.25. Sharoiko is accused of espionage. He currently stays in the Belarusian KGB’s detention center.

According to the KGB, Sharoiko admitted that he is a career officer of Ukrainian military intelligence, working undercover.
