A new action plan of the Council of Europe for Ukraine for the next four years will be adopted in mid-February this year, project manager of the Venice Commission in the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine Serhiy Tkachenko has said.

“The Council of Europe’s action plan for Ukraine 2015-2017 has expired. We hope that a new action plan for the next four years will be adopted in mid-February,” he said at a press conference in Kyiv on February 1.

He recalled that at the request of the Ukrainian authorities, the Venice Commission had assessed a number of important laws and draft laws. In particular, over the past two years, conclusions and recommendations have been presented on bills on peaceful assemblies, on laws on the so-called “party dictatorship,” on the elections of people’s deputies, on the Constitutional Court law, and on the bill on bringing the Verkhovna Rada rules of procedure into compliance with the constitution.

“But this is not the only form of work of the Venice Commission and the CoE Office in Ukraine. There are many projects, but the three main ones are parliamentary reform, constitutional reform and electoral reform,” Tkachenko said.
