A court has approved 39 lawsuits against Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense for compensation of moral damage in connection with the crash of the Il-76 military transport aircraft downed in Donbas on June 14, 2014, for a total of Hr 19.5 million (suits for Hr 500,000), Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has said.

PGO spokesman Andriy Lysenko said that Major-General of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Viktor Nazarov has appealed against the ruling.

“At the present time, the noted court decision has appealed by the accused, his defender and the representative of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the appellate court (Dnipropetrovsk’s Appeals Court), which has commissioned a military forensic expert examination.

As earlier reported, on March 27 Pavlohradsky court found guilty and sentenced Nazarov to a seven-year jail term for dereliction of duty leading to the crash.

A hand-held rocket launcher fired at the transport plane as it was landing at Luhansk airport. There were 49 Ukrainian servicemen aboard and nine members of the plane’s flight crew. All died.
