You're reading: Court extends arrest of five ex-Berkut policemen suspected of shooting EuroMaidan activists

The Svyatoshynsky District Court of Kyiv has extended the term of detention for five former officers of Berkut riot police suspected of shooting at EuroMaidan activists, the 112.ua Channel reported.

According to the TV channel, the next meeting in the case of ex-Berkut officers is scheduled for May 16.

As reported, on February 16, Kyiv’s Sviatoshynsky District Court merged the proceedings five former Berkut riot policemen Pavlo Abroskin, Serhiy Zinchenko, Oleksandr Marynchenko, Serhiy Tamtura and Oleh Yanishevsky, who are accused of murdering 48 activists on Maidan (Independence Square) in Kyiv in February 2014 into a single criminal case.

On January 18 advisor to Ukraine’s Interior Ministry Zorian Shkiriak the Russian side included five former Berkut riot policemen of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry’s special forces into the hostages’ exchange list, but Ukraine has ruled out the possibility of exchanging five former members of the Interior Ministry’s Berkut riot police.
