Kyiv’s Podilsky District Court has extended the arrest to RIA Novosti Ukraine Editor-in-Chief Kiril Vyshynsky, who is charged with high treason.

The court ruled to extend the arrest to Vyshynsky until July 22 at its session on May 7, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported.

The defendant’s defense asked for replacing arrest with house arrest and wearing an electronic tag for him.

As reported, officers of the Ukrainian Security Service detained Vyshinsky in Kyiv on May 15, 2018. They jointly with the Crimean prosecution service have conducted searches at the RIA Novosti Ukraine office in Kyiv. Vyshynsky was charged with high treason under the relevant article of the Ukrainian Criminal Code as part of the criminal case.

On May 16, Vyshynsky was moved to Kherson, where the court arrested him on May 17. The Kherson City Court has already extended the arrest to Vyshynsky several times, while the court of appeals has upheld these rulings.

On March 6, 2019, the Crimean prosecution service has sent an indictment with regard to Vyshynsky with Kyiv’s Podilsky District Court to consider it on its merits. On March 14, Vyshynsky was convoyed to Kyiv from Kherson.

The Kyiv court began hearing his case on April 4.
