You're reading: Court extends Yefremov’s arrest until December 3

Starobilsk District Court in Luhansk region has extended the arrest of former leader of the Party of Regions faction in parliament Oleksandr Yefremov until Dec. 3, the press service of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office reported on Oct. 5.

On Oct. 5, a regular meeting was held in the Starobilsk District Court of Luhansk region in a criminal case on charges against Yefremov of committing criminal offenses under Part 3 of Article 110, Part 1 of Article 111, Part 1 of Article 258-3, Part 3 of Article 27, Article 341, Part 5 of Article 27, Article 341 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

“During a court session a decision was made to extend the detention of the said person until Dec. 3 inclusive,” the report says.

The next court session will be held on Oct. 16 at 1.30 p.m., during which the interrogation of witnesses from the prosecution is planned.

As reported, Yefremov on July 30, 2016 was detained on suspicion of threatening Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty in an airport in Kyiv. He is also charged with supporting the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic and the illegal acquisition of property belonging to Luhanskvuhillia.

The Starobilsk District Court of Luhansk region is currently hearing the case on charges of Yefremov in complicity with terrorists, encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine and high treason.

Yefremov is suspected of organizing the seizure of the building of Luhansk Regional State Administration in the spring 2014, supporting a foreign organization to conduct disruptive activities against Ukraine and supporting and establishing a terrorist organization – the so-called “Luhansk People’s Republic.”
