You're reading: Court hearing on extending Savchenko’s arrest shifted to Oct. 23

Kyiv’s Shevchenkivsky court has postponed consideration of the issue of extending the arrest of MP Nadiya Savchenko to October 23, who is suspected of taking actions aimed at violently changing or overthrowing the constitutional order or seizing state power.

Savchenko’s lawyers did not arrive at the meeting on October 22, under the pretext that they take part in trials in other cities of Ukraine. They asked the court to postpone the meeting to another date.

In turn, Savchenko herself indicated that her lawyers needed time to familiarize with the materials of the motion of the prosecutor’s office to extend the term of detention.

She also noted that on October 24, an appeal was scheduled for an earlier court decision dated September 4 to extend her arrest term to October 30. In her opinion, it would be more logical to consider the extension of her arrest after the issue on the appeal is solved.

In addition, Savchenko reported that at 2:00 p.m. on October 22, she was scheduled for an examination by a doctor to decide whether she needed surgery on her knee. “I’ve been waiting for this examination to find out if I need an operation or not, for about a month and a half. This is a knee surgery, but I don’t know if it is needed. I hope that it will not be necessary to do,” she said.

After this, the court decided to postpone the meeting to October 23.
