You're reading: Court rules to convict in absentia Koriak for illegal imprisonment of Drabynko

The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv has given permission to conduct a special pretrial investigation against former head of the Main Directorate of Interior Ministry in Kyiv, Valeriy Koriak, in the case of the illegal deprivation of liberty of Oleksandr Drabynko, the assistant of the now deceased Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine.

“The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine conducts pretrial investigation in the criminal proceedings on the abuse of official authority by Yanyukovych, Zakharchenko, Koriak and others under the unlawful deprivation of liberty of the personal assistant of the now deceased Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Volodymyr (Sabodan),” the press office of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine said on August 16.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, Yanukovych, Zakharchenko and Koriak were informed about the suspicion in the said proceedings and the relevant requests for permission to conduct a special pretrial investigation were sent to the court.

“On August 11, by the ruling of the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv, the investigator’s motion was granted and permission was given to carry out a special pretrial investigation against Koriak, former head of the Main Directorate of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine in Kyiv,” the report says.

Earlier, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Pechersky court granted the investigator’s request and permission to carry out a special pretrial investigation against former Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko. Consideration of the motion regarding the possibility of absentee conviction of Viktor Yanukovych is underway.
