The Supreme Court of Ukraine at a session on August 19 upheld the position of Oschadbank (Kyiv) and banned Sberbank (Kyiv), a subsidiary bank of Sberbank of Russia, from using the Sberbank trademark in Ukraine, Oschadbank’s press service reported on August 20.

“The considerable duration of the case consideration and its large volume are due to its complexity and active opposition of JSC Sberbank, which is now obliged to stop the illegal use of this trademark in Ukraine,” the message says.

Oschadbank noted that the court decision will not affect rights and obligations of the clients of the Ukrainian bank-opponent.

As reported, on August 10, 2020, the Northern Economic Court of Appeal upheld the appeal of state-owned Oschadbank (Kyiv) and rejected the claim of Sberbank of Russia to cancel the Sberbank trademark, which intellectual property rights in Ukraine belong to Oschadbank. Representatives of Sberbank of Russia filed a lawsuit that the registration of the Sberbank trademark by Oschadbank on the territory of Ukraine violated their rights.
