You're reading: Court summons Yanukovych as defendant in high treason case for May 18

Obolonsky District Court of Kyiv has summoned former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych as a defendant in the high treason case.

A photocopy of the relevant subpoena was published on the website of the Judicial Administration of Ukraine on May 5.

Yanukovych is summoned to appear in court at 10:00 on May 18 in the case under Part 5 of Article 27 (complicity in the crime), Part 3 of Article 110 (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, which led to the death of people or other grave consequences, punishable by seven to twelve years in prison), Part 1 of Article 111 (high treason, punishable by imprisonment for a period of ten to fifteen years), Part 2 of Article 437 (holding an aggressive war or aggressive military actions, punishable by imprisonment for a period of ten to fifteen years) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The agenda was sent to the suspect’s address: Russian Federation, Rostov-on-Don, 81 Yeremenko St., building “B”.

Also the summons indicates that Yanukovych’s defense team has been provided with an opportunity for their client’s participation in the hearing via a video linkup.

As reported, the presiding judge of the Obolonsky district court of Kyiv announced a break in the preparatory meeting on the case of high treason of Viktor Yanukovych until May 18 in response to the defense team’s request for preparing a video conference with their client.
