The number of officially confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ukraine has reached 14,710 as of 9 a.m. on May 9, according to Ukraine’s health ministry. In total, 376 people have died from the disease in Ukraine and 2,906 patients have recovered.

In the past 24 hours, Ukraine has identified 515 new COVID-19 cases, and 300 people have recovered.

Ukraine has carried out 167, 107 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, the most accurate way of diagnosing COVID-19. Out of them, 7,952 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours.

Chernivtsi Oblast in western Ukraine has the biggest number of confirmed cases: 2,097 of them. Kyiv is in second place with 1,721 confirmed cases.

Commenting on delays with the payments of the promised 300% bonuses to medics who treat COVID-19 cases, Stepanov claimed that the Cabinet and his ministry had allocated the money by April 15.

He blamed the delays on lower-level officials in Ukrainian regions and added that Dniptopetrovsk, Kherson and Kyiv oblasts had failed to provide statistics on the payments.

Stepanov said that “human resources” decisions would be made due to the delays in an apparent reference to dismissals and demotions.

“I don’t understand who gave them the right to humiliate our medics who treat COVID-19 patients,” he added.

Stepanov also called for increasing medics’ wages by 50 percent starting from July 1.
