Croatia is ready to help Ukraine introduce a model for the reintegration of the occupied territories to ensure peace with respect for the rule of law, Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenković said.

Plenković said at the inaugural summit of the Crimea Platform in Kyiv on Monday that he has come to (…) testify to the unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Crimea is Ukraine, he said.

According to him, Croatia, conscientiously with other EU member states, constantly provides support to Ukraine at various international platforms.

“The annexation of Crimea is certainly a violation of international law. The occupation provoked a violation of human rights, in particular, of the residents of Crimea (…) They should not face restrictions on their freedoms,” he said.

At the same time, he noted that Croatia expects from the Russian Federation compliance with international law, in particular, humanitarian law, including in the access of international monitoring groups. We are very concerned about the continuing militarization of the peninsula, the Croatian Prime Minister said.

“Croatia knows very well how difficult it is when, on the one hand, you are faced with a long-term conflict, and on the other hand, part of your territory is under occupation. We absolutely understand you in this regard,” he said.

In this context, the Croatian Prime Minister continued: “We have a very good model of peaceful reintegration (…) This is what happened in 1996, in particular, thanks to the successful UN mission, and we will gladly provide you with any assistance in implementing such a model in order to avoid victims, to ensure a peaceful coexistence based on the rule of law,” the Prime Minister of Croatia said.

He added that the issue of Crimea and the temporarily occupied districts of Donbas should be at the top of the international agenda.
