Britain’s Crown Agents will replace some medicines procured using the 2015 national budget funds under order of the Health Ministry of Ukraine, which were not used by hospitals before the expiration date.
“As part of the medicines procurement project for MOH Ukraine [Health Ministry] financed by 2015 state budget, given certain issues throughout the project, and in order to mitigate potential risks for Ukraine, Crown Agents, together with our partners – socially responsible manufacturers and suppliers, provided a guarantee letter to cover the replacement of a number of procured medicines in the event they would not be used before their expiry date,” Crown Agents said in a press release.
According to the press release, a number of hospitals have advised Health Ministry of Ukraine that they will be unable to use some medicines before the expiry of the shelf-life for these products.
Crown Agents said that these are medicines which will expire on April 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017.
Crown Agents said that some medicines that will be replaced were delivered to hospitals in May-June 2016.
“The need for replacement obviously places a certain financial burden on the company; however, we pride ourselves on honoring unequivocally every obligation we take upon ourselves,” Crown Agents said.
Crown Agents has already started negotiations with the manufacturers and suppliers to agree a timetable for the replacement products. The medicines withdrawn during the replacement process will be destroyed and the replacements, of fresh manufacture, will require a delivery lead time.
