  • President Zelensky has appointed a new top military commander in the Donbas region. Lieutenant General Volodymyr Kravchenko will soon take up the role of the top military leader of Ukrainian forces in the war zone of the country’s easternmost region, where the Russian-led war against Ukraine has claimed some 13,000 lives since 2014.
  • Courts in occupied Crimea have handed down a further 17 unlawful sentences to locals. The so-called courts of the occupied Crimean peninsula, the authority of which is not recognized by Ukraine, issued the sentences to local residents for “evading draft” into the armed forces of Russia.
  • Zelensky and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson had their first phone conversation. They reportedly discussed British-Ukrainian relations after Brexit and ways to improve ties. Zelensky also thanked the British government for the UK’s continued support of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
  • Irish low-cost airline Ryanair will increase its number of flights and routes to Ukraine. In November 2019, Ryanair will increase its services to and from Ukraine more than twofold compared to November 2018.
  • Kyiv Post Newsy Vlog: Lawmaking school and presidential pranks feature in our new video blog. They won a landslide in the parliamentary election. Now, President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Servant of the People party is going back to school.
