  • Ukraine agreed to the ‘Steinmeier Formula,’ green-lighting controversial elections in Russia-occupied Donbas: The agreement envisages that the occupied areas of eastern Ukraine get a special self-governing status after they hold local elections. The elections have to take place in accordance with the Ukrainian legislation and be approved by the OSCE, but plenty of Ukraine watchers already have serious concerns.
  • Nearly 27,000 Jewish pilgrims mark new year, pray at sacred grave in Uman: The Hasidic Jews arrived in Ukraine to mark year 5780, starting at sundown on Sept. 29, according to the Jewish calendar. Praying on Rabbi Nachman’s tomb is believed to expiate one’s sins and bring great blessings in the new year.
